Famous actress and former Miss Universe Alicia Machado appeared completely devastated in a social media video after the devastating double earthquake that struck Venezuela.
Through tears and with visible anguish, the former Miss Universe opened her heart to share the status of her loved ones amid the collective panic, also revealing a painful material loss that directly affected her family’s home.
Alicia Machado spoke about the tragedy of her brother Arturo. With a broken heart and crying in front of the camera, Alicia sent a message of faith, describing the crisis her older brother is experiencing after the structures collapsed:
“My family is okay, you know my older brother Arturo, the oldest one, he lost his house, it was very difficult for him, but we are there.” In another live broadcast, she gave more details about her brother: “My family is there, (in Venezuela) many buildings have fallen… my brother’s building is completely uninhabitable, they evacuated them, the building next door collapsed, this is more serious than we thought.”

Aware that the absolute priority is saving lives from the rubble, Alicia Machado pleaded for immediate international assistance.
The Venezuelan woman directly appealed for the solidarity of several Latin American nations and their respective leaders to speed up the deployment of specialized personnel, while also acknowledging the institutional intentions of leaders in the region:
“Colombia has many rescue teams, we need rescue teams, from my beautiful and beloved Mexico, we need rescue teams. President Claudia, send your people, your Topos, the Chilean government, send us rescue teams. I know the Venezuelan government will provide the facilities and support so that all the rescue teams can carry out their missions, those from outside, which is the most important thing.”
“I love you with all my heart and now more than ever you, my fans, show me the love you have for me. Thank you to President Bukele, President of Chile, President of Mexico, but at this moment we need rescue teams, here we are fighting.”

Alicia Machado’s testimony generated mixed reactions on digital platforms. On one side, hundreds of fans showed solidarity with the pain of their fellow Venezuelan with messages such as:
“Thank you Alicia, you are a beloved Venezuelan, God is with us” and “Help is urgent, people are dying inside the rubble.”
However, controversy was also present, as some users criticized the way artists address the catastrophe from abroad, expressing very strong opinions:
“If your brother lost his house, there are people who have lost their lives and many alive under the rubble! They have to be careful when they speak out… Get on a plane and go remove rubble!” And: “Honestly, I have seen the Reels of artists who are outside Venezuela and they are all overacting.”
